Special Interest
A key area of Vicki’s training and practice is relieving anxiety due to traumatic events. As a certified trauma therapist, she has found that integrating the psychotherapy combinations of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness activities such as breath-work and meditation assist those who experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress. In Vicki’s words, “she has seen miracles happen” by utilizing these therapeutic tools.
Simply put, Cognitive Behavior Therapy may be described as a method to restructure negative or “stuck thoughts” into positive, higher functioning ones. Mindfulness exercises provide tools for the client to self-utilize methods to manage anxiety, while EMDR is described as an “integrative psychotherapy approach.” It has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress...The goal of EMDR therapy is to leave you with the emotions, understanding, and perspectives that will lead to healthy and useful behaviors and interactions.
